This is a tough week for layoff announcements. It’s genuinely unfortunate—and while no words can erase the uncertainty or stress, we can choose how we respond next with resilience, clarity and empathy.

Here are three steps to navigate a layoff moment thoughtfully:

1. Pause and assess: Take a breath. Your value isn’t defined by this moment. Ground yourself, review your accomplishments, and take stock of your financial and emotional resources before deciding your next move.

2. Reframe your story: Reflect on the kind of work and environment that energize you. Update your personal brand—your resume, your LinkedIn profile, and your narrative—to showcase impact, adaptability, and potential.

3. Move strategically: Explore new paths with curiosity. Consider consulting, short-term projects, or new industries. Stay open, stay visible, and stay in motion.
